Bird watching
Williamsburg Cemetery offers more than a place of remembrance, it’s also a peaceful natural setting where visitors can slow down and appreciate local wildlife. Whether you’re visiting a loved one or enjoying quiet, passive recreation; bird watching is a gentle way to connect with nature and the landscape around you.
The cemetery is home to a wide variety of bird species, with frequent sightings throughout the grounds. Two especially good areas for bird watching are:
- The Crossings Boardwalk, located within the natural wetlands
- The back forest, along the Trillium Woods hiking trail
Birds commonly spotted here include the Northern Cardinal, Baltimore Oriole, Great Blue Heron, Barred Owl, Indigo Bunting, and Great Crested Flycatcher, along with many others throughout the seasons.
To help you get started, we offer a bird watching pamphlet with photos and tips for identifying common species you may see during your visit. Visit our office at Williamsburg Cemetery to get your copy.
