The continued spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Canada and around the world has understandably raised concerns for you and your families. At Kitchener Cemeteries, the well-being of the families we serve and our employees is of the deepest concern to us. We want you to know that your safety will remain our top priority as this situation continues to evolve.

We are taking important steps to help you stay protected.

We continue to monitor the situation closely and are following the latest guidance from local, provincial and federal health authorities, including Public Health Waterloo Region and Public Health Agency of Canada, to ensure that our practices are aligned with the latest recommendations.

Visiting Kitchener cemeteries

To reduce the risk of transmitting COVID-19, access to Kitchener cemeteries is permitted for walk-through access only as part of an essential trip.

In addition, please observe the following health and safety protocols:

  • A maximum of 10 people are permitted at a graveside/burial service.
  • No gatherings of 5 people or more people in any given part of the cemetery.
  • Keep your cemetery visits short.
  • Maintain a social distance of at least 2 metres between you, staff and other visitors in the cemetery.
  • Practice good hand hygiene and bring hand sanitizer with you as public washrooms are not available.

The Region of Waterloo passed a bylaw requiring the wearing of face coverings in enclosed public spaces that will come into effect on July 13. You can learn more about the bylaw and what it means for you on the Region of Waterloo site.

Turf maintenance will continue this year, but due to COVID-19, grass will be cut less frequently and taller than normal, and flowers will not be planted.
